Olympic Update
The 2012 London Olympics has now started, and APC is committed to offering customers the highest possible levels of service throughout the Games. It’s the largest sporting event ever staged in the UK, so there will be restrictions on pedestrians, vehicles, deliveries and access – and of course this will result in disruption and challenges for parcel delivery.
As an official sponsor of London 2012, the US Logistics company UPS has been given exclusive rights to deliver ALL consignments into the Olympic lockdown postcode areas during the Olympic and Paralympic games. As such APC Overnight and all other UK carriers MUST take all consignments destined to these areas to UPS for Final Mile delivery at an additional cost and under the UPS terms and conditions as detailed below. As this final mile delivery is mandatory we have no option other than to pass these charges on to our customers directly. Please contact us on 0845 241 6666 for more help.
The Final Mile service is a contractual service, please contact UPS to discuss shipping details. Final Mile packages are subject to the same surcharges, restrictions and other Terms and Conditions of carriage as set out in the current UPS Service and Tariff Guide or as detailed on www.ups.com. All shipments delivered to UPS for the Final Mile service must be in unmarked (except for shipping label) or UPS branded packaging. The Package Final Mile and Freight Final Mile charges are shown exclusive of taxes. Where applicable, VAT will be chargeable at the standard rate. Final Mile charges are also shown exclusive of any applicable UPS additional charges (e.g. Fuel surcharge). Collect on Delivery service is not available for Final Mile shipments. Final Mile Freight shipments are subject to the RHA Terms and Conditions and surcharges defined on a contractual basis The Freight Final Mile service is restricted to a specific maximum pallet size due to security screening requirements. Delivery attempts will be made Monday to Saturday outside Games time. In addition, a Sunday delivery service will be offered from 27 July to 12 August and 29 August to 9 September 2012.
Delivery times and dates are scheduled but not guaranteed or contractually promised. Due to extra handling requirements, UPS does not provide a moneyback guarantee for the Final Mile service. Therefore UPS does not refund shipping charges if deliveries experience a delay. In order to respond to evolving costs and taxes and to ensure a competitive service, UPS reserves the right to amend or introduce changes to rates and additional charges. During the lockdown period, Final Mile deliveries to London 2012 venues will be made to the designated London 2012 venue delivery location where it will be stored until the shipment consignee collects it. The storage of the shipment during the lockdown period is included in the Final Mile Charge. If the shipment is not collected before the end of the lockdown period the shipment will follow the special handling of undeliverable shipments stated in the UPS Service and Tariff Guide.
*At time of printing LOCOG had not published the lockdown period dates.
